This week: Online Security Jam – organized by Security and Defence Agenda

At the beginning of February, the European Commission and NATO will join together as co-supporters of an unprecedented worldwide online brainstorm – the Security Jam – that will produce key recommendations on how to make our world a safer place.

Held online, between February 4th and 9th 2010, the Security Jam will tackle such pressing issues as Climate Change, Crisis Management, Afghanistan, Human Rights, Piracy and Development. The format will allow major stakeholders direct access to a broad level of input from NGOs, civil society, security & defence practitioners, leading political and military figures, think tanks, academics and journalists. Several thousand participants will debate online over the 5 days.

Online_Security_Jam_Brochure is co-organised by a coalition of think-tanks including the Security & Defence Agenda, Chatham House, the Atlantic Council, the Global Humanitarian Forum, the Open Society Foundation, SIPRI, Carnegie Europe, CIDOB, the Fondation pour la Recherche Stratégique, Bertelsmann Stiftung, GCSP and Friends of Europe, in collaboration with IBM, the Munich Security Conference and Europe’s World.

Help make the world a safer place… register NOW to be online at the Security Jam between 4th and 9th February 2010.

VIP Keynote participants include:

Kai Eide, United Nations Special Representative to Afghanistan, United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA)

Admiral James Stavridis, NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR)

Josette Sheeran, Executive Director, United Nations World Food Programme (WFP)

General Håkan Syrén, Chairman, European Union Military Committee (EUMC)

Jacqueline McGlade, Director of the European Environment Agency

As such, it is an important opportunity for all stakeholders and interested parties to make their voice heard. And, as an online session, it allows participants to log in and log out at their convenience, from anywhere in the world, once they’re registered.
